Honda is trying to silence criticism that it doesn't offer a V-8 engine or a rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan.
Its answer is the new Acura RL sedan, which goes on sale later this year. Acura is Honda's luxury brand in North American. Honda displayed a concept version of the car at the New York auto show.
Competitors will include the Audi A6, the BMW 530i and the Mercedes-Benz E320. Honda hopes to sell up to 15,000 Acura RLs a year.
