German supplier Continental is spending more than $1 million to promote ESP (electronic stability program) in North America.

Vehicle installation of ESP has hit the 10 percent level in North America, compared with 30 percent in Europe.

Wolfgang Ziebart, deputy chairman of Continental's executive board, said during the SAE World Congress last month that he expects the installation rate to rise to 80 percent in North America by the end of the decade.

Continental is building additional active safety systems that work with ESP systems.
