Nissan's plan to bring some of its top-selling US and Japanese models to Europe has stalled.

The Japanese automaker needs a large diesel engine to introduce models such as the Maxima and Skyline sedans and its Infiniti luxury brand in Europe.

So far, rival manufacturers have refused to supply Nissan with the diesel technology that could boost its sales in Europe.

BMW and Toyota both turned down Nissan's requests for large diesel engines.
