BMW's new [euro]1.3 billion factory in Leipzig, Germany, will change the way Tier 1 suppliers are integrated into the luxury carmaker's production.
The Leipzig plant is the first BMW factory to have a supplier park on site.
BMW wanted its suppliers located nearby because the automaker allows its customers to change specifications on ordered vehicles up to five days before the car is produced.
Suppliers located nearby can make individualized modules that incorporate late customer changes.
