Valeo, Europe's No. 4 auto supplier, is to sell its blind-spot technology to one of the Big 3 US automakers.

Sensors that warn drivers of obstructions in the blind spots near a vehicle's rear corners will be available to US drivers in 2006.

The technology will come from Valeo Raytheon Systems of Auburn Hills, Michigan, a joint venture of Valeo of Paris and US supplier Raytheon. Production will start in 2006.

Valeo confirmed it has a contract with a Big 3 automaker for the technology but would not identify the customer. Spokesmen for Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler group said their companies have not yet made a commitment to the technology. A General Motors spokesman would not discuss the automaker's future...
