General Motors Europe, Ford's European operations and the Fiat group are all under new management this summer. Mercedes-Benz is likely to have a new boss before too long as well.

The reasons for the changes vary. But it's clear that each is struggling to figure out how to make money in the weak European auto market.

The question for Fiat is whether its 1-year-old reorganization plan will prove enough to sustain improvement in its results.
