Global automakers have accelerated their investments into China but they may have to pay the price for the heated development unless they get more environmentally friendly.

To accomplish this, "China's automobile industry must follow a new development route with high efficiency, energy saving and low pollution," warned Miao Wei, president of Dongfeng Motor Corp.
