The annual UK fuel eco-marathon earlier this month at the Rockingham Motor Speedway failed to set any new records.
French team Microjoules managed a mere 9,737 miles per gallon (or 0.025 liters per 100km). That's well below the 10,705mpg mark the same team set a year ago.
So is this event a waste of time, money and effort? These contests explore the limits of vehicle lightness, minimal friction and fuel efficiency, but the best today's motorist can practically expect is 70mpg.
