Every six months or so, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen makes noises about eventually coming back to the US market. PSA could do it right away by taking advantage of others' misfortunes.

DaimlerChrysler has halted the cash flow to ailing partner Mitsubishi, so the Japanese automaker is starved for capital.

One way for Mitsubishi to raise cash is to sell assets, such as its underused US assembly plant in Normal, Illinois.

Peugeot could buy the plant cheaply, getting quick access to US assembly. And given Peugeot's experience with French labor unions, dealing ...
