Automakers defend their ground; ACEA toughens its stand against increasing regulations.(News)(Association des Constructeurs Europeens d'Automobiles)

The auto industry is defending itself more aggressively against what it calls excessive regulation and enemies of the car, said Ivan Hodac, secretary general of ACEA, the European auto industry association.

"It is time to stand up and talk about our achievements and contributions to society," he told the Automotive News Europe Congress.

European automakers are worried that increasing European Union regulations are putting the industry's competitiveness at risk, threatening thousands of jobs and Europe's prosperity.
