New Mercedes Car Group CEO Eckhard Cordes spent four years fixing Daimler-Chrysler's heavy trucks division. Now he must improve Mercedes-Benz quality.
D/C's board has clearly ex-pressed its desire to make M-B No. 1 in key J.D. Power and Associates consumer surveys by 2006. Plagued by electronics problems, Mercedes has slipped to No. 28 in the survey's vehicle dependability ranking in the US and to No. 11 in initial customer satisfaction in Germany.
