Sogefi, Europe's No. 3 suspension component maker, is bidding for the Latin American operations of German rival ThyssenKrupp.
ThyssenKrupp is No. 2 in Europe, but it has decided to leave the sector.
EU antitrust rules prevent Sogefi from buying ThyssenKrupp's entire suspension business. But the rules allow the Italian supplier to bid for ThyssenKrupp's Latin American operations.
The addition would help Sogefi compete against NHK of Japan, which is the largest suspension components maker in the world.
