Mercedes-Benz will add two new models and double production capacity at its only US plant starting early next year.
The German automaker will increase capacity at its Vance, Alabama, factory to 160,000 from 80,000 units annually.
Mercedes has built the M class premium SUV at the factory since it opened in 1997.
Next April it will add the new R class, a crossover between an SUV and a large station wagon. In early 2006 the new G class premium SUV will come off the production line.
