General Motors Europe's hopes for increased new-car sales this year lie outside western Europe.

"I see sustainable growth in eastern Europe, Russia and Turkey," said GME Chairman Fritz Henderson.

GME also expects its new European budget brand Chevrolet to drive growth in 2005.

GME's Opel/Vauxhall brands are taking a beating in western Europe. Last year Opel/Vauxhall sales in western Europe dropped to 1,327,923 units, down 13,597 on 2003, according to JATO.
