Toyota's chief of hybrid and fuel cell vehicle development defends the company's aggressive marketing of hybrids despite profit margins that are lower than those of gasoline-powered cars.

He also reaffirms the carmaker's willingness to license technology to other automakers.

"We've been approached by many manufacturers. Our basic stance is an open one" on licensing the technology, said Hiroyuki Watanabe in an interview.
