Jost Capito developed his love of racing at an early age. He started skiing at 3 and riding a motorcycle at 6. At 16, Capito took part in his first motorcycle race just hours after getting his license. In 1975, he teamed with his father in a Unimog to win the Paris-Dakar Rally's truck category, finishing 11th overall. A year later he won the German junior motorcycle title.
