Some Land Rover purists might be offended by the Range Rover Sport, which will be unveiled this week at the Detroit auto show. It's a compromise vehicle of sorts - a vehicle with all-terrain capabilities but designed to really show its stuff on normal roads.

The Range Rover Sport is Land Rover's answer to the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5, vehicles that can cope with off-road conditions but are better known for their on-road performance.
