Smart, which had made it a point to abstain from offering incentives, is offering free vacations to promote its slow-selling Roadster and Roadster-Coupe models in Germany.

Anders Sundt Jensen, marketing and sales director at Smart, didn't want to call the offer an incentive.

Emotional appeal

Smart spokesman Hubert Kogel said: "We want to reach the customers on an emotional level because no one buys such a car for rational reasons."
