Toyota is strengthening its design capability with a technical center here.
Toyota opened a new center here March 7 that will lead product development for the Asia-Pacific region outside of Japan.
The operation employs 50 engineers. Toyota hopes to expand the center to 120 employees by 2007.
By adding its fourth technical center outside Japan - Ann Arbor, Michigan in the US; Brussels in Belgium; and Bangkok, Thailand, are the others - Toyota believes it can be more in touch with local product and local suppliers.
