The arrival of the Bentley Continental GT almost doubled sales in the exotic segment to 7,490 units last year compared with 2003.

That is one of the highlights of Automotive News Europe's European market segmentation analysis based on data from UK-based researcher JATO Dynamics.

The Continental GT helped the most exclusive segment of the 22 classes Automotive News Europe tracks make the biggest year-on-year percentage increase in 2004.

Bentley, which sells mostly Continental GTs, accounted for 40 percent of all exotic-car sales.
