Everything in this business revolves around products. Companies blossom or wither on the strength of decisions made by their product planners.
There were therefore great expectations when General Motors announced in September 2001 it had persuaded the semi-retired Bob Lutz to join GM.
Who better to steer GM back on track than the man with a reputation as the best product guy in the business? That's why the recent news of a further GM decline is disappointing.
