Magna Steyr will build the Jeep Commander at its plant in Graz, Austria, said Chrysler group Chief Operating Officer Tom LaSorda.

Production will start late this year or in early 2006, a Chrysler spokeman said. The first Commanders will arrive in European showrooms in early 2006.

LaSorda said the Chrysler group, DaimlerChrysler's US arm that includes the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands, will use its partnership with Magna Steyr to grow in Europe rather than build its own assembly plant in Europe.
