Ford Motor Co. will use a stretched version of its C1 platform to underpin some of its new Premier Automotive Group vehicles.

Volvo's next generation of large cars such as the S60 and V70 will use the new architecture, which is called EUCD.

The modified platform also will underpin the Land Rover Freelander redesign coming in 2007, company sources say.

The EUCD architecture could spawn the Jaguar X-type replacement in 2009. It will also be the basis of the next Ford Mondeo sedan and Galaxy large minivan.
