Siemens defends SmartKey system

To the Editor:

In response to Mark Rechtin's column ("SmartKeys don't live up to the name," May 30), Siemens VDO Automotive's experience with Passive Start & Entry has been positive, with increasing consumer demand.

The column highlights the feature's convenience and security advantages, but seems to focus on poor implementation on a specific vehicle.

For example, typical systems have an audible chime that alerts the driver to situations mentioned by Rechtin, such as if the SmartKey is left in the vehicle while the engine ...
