European Union competition authorities are determined to lessen the power automakers have on limiting who can repair and service their cars. The EU thinks carmakers are too dominant in this area.

Independent parts distributors and repairers complain they are refused access to technical information provided by carmakers to repair their cars. This puts them at a disadvantage against the carmakers' own repair networks, which can get the information easily.
