Two compete for BMW X3

BMW will build a new small sport-utility vehicle either at Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz, Austria, or at Karmann in Osnabruck, Germany, BMW sources say. Preparations for the vehicle, which may be called the X3, are well-advanced. The SUV should be ready for production by 2002. Sources say BMW could build as many as 80,000 units of the new SUV annually.
