Fiat Auto and Tata Motors of India have signed an agreement to study vehicle development, manufacturing and global vehicle distribution.
The cooperation will focus primarily on the Indian market and could generate several cross-supply contracts.
Sources say Fiat has offered its D-200 lower-medium sedan to Tata. Fiat will begin building the four-door D-200 in Turkey in 2007, and will start production later in Brazil and China.
The D-200 is derived from the third-generation Punto.
