The auto industry is the world's biggest media buyer.

Automotive companies spent $22.7 billion (currently [euro]19.4 billion) on advertising last year, 12.8 percent more than the year before. The second-highest spenders were personal care product makers at $17.2 billion.

The data comes from Automotive News Europe's sister publication Advertising Age.
