Volkswagen appears certain to reclaim the title of western Europe's best selling brand from Renault this year, with few selling days left.

Volkswagen outsold Renault by almost 10,000 units in October, extending its lead through the first 10 months of the year to almost 19,000, according to market researcher JATO Dynamics of the UK. Renault ousted VW for the sales title in 2002 and has held it since then.

Complete November sales data are still unavailable, but some calendar year results for western Europe already are evident.
