Land Rover hopes it can achieve fuel savings of up to 30 percent with hybrid technologies specially developed for SUVs.
The CO2-reduction package, shown on the Land_e concept, includes an engine stop-start system, electric drive to the rear axle and an ingenious propshaft that disconnects the drive when not needed.
"The Land_e technology will be applicable to our entire range, both gasoline and diesel," Managing Director Matthew Taylor said. About 90 percent of Land Rover's European sales are powered by diesels.
