Automakers and suppliers are cautiously optimistic that it soon will be easier to transport goods by train in Spain.

The monopoly held by Renfe, Spain's national rail operator, is being broken apart.

The liberalization will allow private companies to run trains on the Spanish rail network, which has been controlled by Renfe for the past 60 years.

Spain's government hopes the change will result in more competitive transport prices and more efficient movement of goods both inside and outside the country.
