The ability to manage alliances and partnerships is one of the key requirements for senior executives in today's auto industry.

Senior managers at automakers and suppliers also need to have strong operational experience, be able to take a global perspective and have solid financial management skills.

Those findings come from a survey of 350 auto executives carried out by Spencer Stuart, a global executive search firm.
