M-B production head to retire
Hans-Heinrich Weingarten, 59, Mercedes Car Group's board member for production, will retire on June 30.
Weingarten's job will not be filled. Instead, Rainer Schmuckle, the group's chief operating officer, will add production to his responsibilities.
Weingarten joined Daimler-Benz after earning an engineering degree.
He ran Mercedes' German factories in Berlin and Bremen and from 1999 to 2003 he was responsible for the carmaker's Sindelfingen plant.
Weingarten succeeded Helmut Petri as head of Mercedes production in July 2003.
Following Weingarten's retirement, Gunter Walz and Simon Boag, Mercedes' vice presidents for production planning, will report to Schmuckle.
