Martin Smith has brought an exciting, new styling direction to Ford of Europe. Smith, a native of Sheffield, England, took charge of Ford's European design in July 2004. Previously he was Opel's design director. He talked with Automobilwoche editor Guido Reinking.

Why is Ford of Europe's new design language called kinetic design?

Kinetic design means "energy in motion." Ford cars are known for their driving dynamics. Our goal is to document this externally. The cars should appear dynamic at first sight.
