Fiat shares extended their winning streak in the first quarter of 2006, posting a return on investment of 41.3 percent in the first three months. Year-on-year, the shares showed a gain of 85.3 percent.

It was the third consecutive quarter that Fiat shares outperformed other automaker stocks.

"Management at Fiat is pushing through major changes and acting aggressively to improve efficiency," said Philip Wylie, automotive team leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers' corporate finance division. "Investors are buying that."
