Collins & Aikman is evaluating whether it should close additional plants and shed more workers in the US because of production cuts by its Detroit 3 customers (General Motors, Ford Motor and DaimlerChrysler).
The US supplier of vehicle interiors is preparing to emerge from Chapter 11 reorganization. Collins & Aikman, of Southfield, Michigan, is cutting about 125 salaried employees in its corporate offices and plastic-trim division, which represents 10 percent of its salaried work force, says company spokesman David Youngman.
