Mitsubishi is still studying whether to build cars in Russia, Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko said.

Masuko said Mitsubishi will consider a plant in Russia if its sales there reach 80,000 or 100,000. That is increasingly likely.

Mitsubishi sold fewer than 50 cars in Russia in 1991. Sales jumped 53 percent to 57,200 in the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2006. That makes Russia Mitsubishi's largest market in Europe. Sales are expected to hit 70,000 this fiscal year, which began April 1.
