Renault and Nissan have begun buying steel jointly.
Until now, the two alliance partners had not bought steel together because it is not traded on open markets the way platinum is traded on commodity exchanges, said Odile Desforges.
Desforges chairs the joint Renault Nissan Purchasing Organization (RNPO). She also is Renault's executive vice president of purchasing.
The alliance partners added steel to their joint shopping list starting in April.
