The success of the Auris will be key to whether Toyota reaches its goal of selling 1.2 million cars in Europe in 2008.

Toyota showed a near-production prototype for the new car in Paris and called it the Auris Space Concept to emphasize its roominess.

"With the concept our designers have taken an intense inside-out approach creating a spectacularly roomy and spacious interior," said Thierry Dombreval, Toyota Europe's executive vice president of marketing.
