Fiat will launch at least one new model a year in China in the coming years to regain traction in the booming auto market.

Fiat group Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo says Fiat Auto plans to sell 300,000 units in China by 2010, up from an estimated 40,000 units this year.

Executive upheaval and a massive restructuring in Europe robbed Fiat Auto of the time and manpower it would have needed to remain competitive in China. Plus, Fiat Auto's partner in China, Nanjing Automobile, has been distracted by its efforts to make its own cars.
