Ford's 1,700 European dealers are in a better mood than they were five years ago.

Some loosening of overly restrictive standards for their stores, better products and higher average sales per store have helped to improve the relationship with Ford of Europe, dealers say. But profitability is a problem, as is Ford's move to shift more paperwork onto individual dealers from the national sales companies, says Ben Abeloos, chairman of the European Ford Dealer Association.
