Fiat will buy engines from Chery for the Linea.(Fiat S.p.A.)(Brief article)

Fiat's new Linea lower-medium sedan will be powered by a gasoline engine made by Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile.

Fiat will add the Linea to its China lineup in 2008 and expects the car to help boost its new-car sales in the country to 300,000 units by 2010.

Fiat predicts it will sell 40,000 units in China this year.

The Italian carmaker plans to buy more than 100,000 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines a year from Chery. The engines will power Fiat cars sold inside and outside China.

Fiat has not released details on which cars will get the engines. But company sources say a China-built Linea likely will get Chery's 1.6-liter gasoline engine.
