The first full electromechanical brake-by-wire system could be on the road in five years.

German supplier Siemens VDO Automotive has a contract to supply its Electronic Wedge Brake system to an unnamed automaker. The system most likely will be rolled out on a North American gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle in late 2010 or early 2011.
