Fiat Auto is talking with Chery Automobile about having the Chinese carmaker build Alfa Romeos for China, company insiders say.
Separately, Alfa Romeo also plans to return to the US in the third quarter of 2009.
"J.D. Power is currently conducting a market analysis for Alfa Romeo in the target area of Los Angeles," Alfa Romeo Brand Director Antonio Baravalle told financial analysts here last week.
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said Alfa is considering entering China in two or three years.
Since 2002, the Italian automaker has had a Chinese partner, Nanjing Automobile, which builds Fiat-brand cars. Nanjing plans to sell 36,000 to 38,000 Fiat units this year in China and to reach 300,000 sales by 2010....
