Unexpected top-management changes dominated the headlines in 2006.
But it was also a year when corruption cases in Germany shook the industry. Central Europe's potential as a car production hub started to be realized and Chinese cars began to appear in Europe - albeit in small numbers.
It was a rough year for many European carmakers. Ford Motor put subsidiary Aston Martin up for sale and fellow British brands Jaguar and Land Rover also could be sold soon. (See story, Page 26)
