Vienna's port authorities want a bigger share of the booming car logistics market in central and eastern Europe - and they believe the Danube River is what will bring it to them.

In a speech at a logistics conference in Vienna in November, Port of Vienna Managing Director Walter Edinger highlighted the potential of a pan-European water route that includes the Danube. He said that some of the new vehicle production that is taking place in central Europe could be transported to western European markets using the river.
