BMW could build more models with a new fender module co-developed with French supplier Plastic Omnium.

"The module is definitely interesting for high volumes, not just for niche models," said Arnold Schenn, program manager body for BMW's X models.

Plastic Omnium confirmed that there is interest in the fender module, but declined to name potential models or possible customers other than BMW.

The second-generation BMW X5 is the first model to use the pre-assembled fender module, which is delivered just-in-sequence to the carmaker's US plant ...
