The cherry blossom theory
Ever wondered why Japanese automakers replace their models with fresh designs every 36 months, while Europeans cling on to the same shape for five or more years?
The elegant explanation provided by Toyota's chief designer, Wahei Hirai, centers on Japan's famous cherry blossom. "Japanese people love the two weeks when the cherry blossom is out," he told ANE. "But if the blossom stayed out all year round, it wouldn't be special at all."
