Honda will open a plant to produce powertrain components in the south China city of Foshan in late April.

The Honda-owned plant will produce highly engineered machined components.

Its current joint-venture engine plant with Dongfeng Motor does not have the technology to produce these parts, says Masaya Nagai, a spokesman for Honda Motor (China) Investment.

The addition of the plant also will allow Honda to produce enough powertrains in China to match its growing vehicle production here.
