The EU's chief automotive regulator will not say what the future regulatory regime will look like.

But one thing is for sure: The rules have to be clear and simple.

"We have to think in terms of simplicity and clarity so that national judges can understand the rules," said Paolo Cesarini (above), head of unit at the EU's competition directorate. Cesarini plays a key role in mapping out rules for the auto and other manufacturing industries.
